Bio for Ken Waters

Ken Waters is a recent retired physical scientist/meteorologist with careers in the USAF and NOAA. He holds a BA in Biology (including Genetics and Heredity) and an MS in Tropical Meteorology and Physical Oceanography.

Ken’s genealogy experience began in 1999 when he discovered going to National Archives branches to dig through miles of 1920 census microfilm including SOUNDEX. In 2013 he decided to try his hand at taking a DNA kit. Since then Ken has administered more than 25 DNA kits for family and friends and currently manages kits in all 5 testing companies as well as GedMatch. He regularly attends conferences such as RootsTech, SCGS Jamboree, and the I4GG (Institute for Genetic Genealogy) as well as local meetings to stay current in this fast-changing field. Since 2018 Ken has taught monthly classes at the local public library, primarily focusing on genetic genealogy and also he has spoken often to other genealogy groups and helped clients individually. He also keeps his IT skills current including web development, SQL, programming, spreadsheet work, data science, and other techie tools.
